A write-up won’t be complete if we only list out all the numerous accomplishment of a true hero without talking about the journey; I mean the failure, the obstacles and the tears that turned river, which this person swarm through to get to the shore of success. HRH PRINCESS MORADEUN ADEDOYIN-SOLARIN who will be celebrating her 60th birthday & diamond jubilee this year, was born into the renowned family of the Adedoyin Anoko Royal Lineage and is the Grand Daughter of HRM Oba William Christopher Adedoyin II, Akarigbo Anoko of Sagamu & Paramount Ruler of Remo Kingdom in Western Nigeria. Here in the UK she is regularly referred to as one of the most influential personalities in the UK social and media world.
Hrh Princess Moradeun who is a graduate of Journalism and Communication Arts with over 40 years experience, started her career back then with the Nigerian Television, NTV 10 as the youngest Staff at 17yrs, where her career started in 1975. Her sky rocketing career made her a centre of attraction in the whole of Nigeria. She was the first female journalist to interview the Afrobeat Legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti for Lagos Television LTV 8.
It wasn’t a surprise when she got hooked up at a very young age, married to a man she believed was God sent to compliment her destined for greatness life, but all her dream were shattered when she started going through what can best be described as “Hellish marriage” as she was subjected to series of physical and emotional abuse, which at a time was even extended to her place of work at NTA. she opened up this sad chapter of her life and narrated how she was beaten up by her ex-husband in front of her colleagues at work, who supported and stood by her through this ordeal by calling the security to march him off the premises.
It is an understatement to say her marriage had a devastating effect on her career and was now in a dilemma between her happiness and staying in an unhappy marriage; we all know back in the days that it was a taboo for a woman to divorce her husband in Africa, coupled with the fact that she is from a well known Royal family and already had two kids; Divorce as an option for her was a ‘NO ‘NO considering the stigma it will have on her family.
Against all odds Princess Moradeun finally found the courage to put an end to the captivity called marriage. Her decision was guided by a life principle the 3 ‘L’s she invented:
L1: LIFE: Live it to the Fullest
L2: LOVE: Love to the Max
L3: LEGACY: Leave a lasting Legacy
Princess Moradeun left the luxurious life she was used to, alongside the love and protection she had from members of her Royal family, as well as all the wealth she had acquired from her hard work. she left everything behind and relocated to the UK where she then filed for a divorce, which was indeed a very stressful process. Although after some years she had the intention to return back to Nigeria but the Military took over the Government, making it difficult to return to Nigeria when a Military Dictator was in power. As a fighter and a Royal rebel, she decided to make the best out of the situation by settling and starting a new life in the UK.
Princess Moradeun managed to secure a short term contract with BBC Radio Bush House at the time, she also got a part in the film ‘MANDELA’ starring Danny Glover. Her Talent & Professional Skills then got her an interview with Channel 4. The interview was successful and she was promised a job with the newly created Diversity Dept, only to receive another letter that she wouldn’t be given the job as they did not want people who had her Qualifications & Professional ‘Sheen’ and that they would rather take on Green Horns and Train them on the job. This bitter experience triggered her to create her own ‘Arize’ Brand & TV show which she co-presented first on ‘PASSION TV’ then later moved to Ben TV. The ‘Arize!’ Platform is where she puts the Spotlight on People, Organisations and Businesses of Ethnic minorities, especially young Girls and Women, who want to indeed ‘Arize!’ and make a difference as Positive Change Agents in 21st Century; thus helping them to get the much deserved exposure for their hard work and efforts.
