An African woman living in the UK has had her bank account blocked by Barclays bank when a staff mistakes her deep voice to that of a man after she made a telephone banking call.

Lorraine Chademunhu, 42, of Chessington, Surrey, originally from Zimbabwe has been a customer with Barclays bank since 1997, claims she usually has problems using other services, like booking for a table at restaurants because of the deep tone in her voice and she has to come up with men’s names like ‘Derek’ to avoid the hassle of arguing back and forth in proving she is a woman and not a man.

Lorrain admits she feels insulted and humiliated all the time when ever she is being addressed as ‘Sir’, Mr Lorraine, buddy, the list goes on.
